Why Waldorf Music Academy is Southern Maryland's #1 choice for music lessons!

Waldorf Music Academy is Southern Maryland's best music school, teaching students from ages 4 to adult. Whatever instrument you or your child wish to play, odds are we teach it: Piano, electric & acoustic Guitar, Drums, Saxophone, Brass, Clarinet, Flute and Bass, all taught under one roof.

Instruments:

We teach Guitar, Piano, Voice, Drums, Bass  Guitar, Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute, Trumpet, and Trombone lessons.

Guitar Classes >

Our guitar instructors teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical styles on both electric and acoustic guitars. Beginners work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Each lesson will challenge you with a new technique or music theory, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song.

Drum Classes >

At Waldorf Music Academy, every state-of-the-art drum lesson room is equipped with electric drum kits for our students. Our instructors teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles of drumming, and challenge every student with technical exercises specifically designed to improve their speed and comfort. Beginning students need only their drumsticks and a notebook, and all that’s needed for practice at home is an inexpensive drum pad.

 Piano Classes >

Whether you aspire to play Bach or Alicia Keys, Waldorf's dedicated piano instructors will help you become the pianist you want to be. Our faculty will introduce you to the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, and incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. You do not need a piano at home to take lessons; a simple full-size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first six months.

 Bass Classes >

Our bass instructors teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical styles on both electric and acoustic basses. Beginners work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Each bass lesson will challenge you with a new technique or music theory, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song. We employ a variety of bass method books based on student needs and preferences, and encourage students to bring smartphones or CDs to their lessons to learn their favorite tunes.

Clarinet, Flute, and Saxophone Classes >

Whether you aspire to play School Band or Charlie Parker, Waldorf's dedicated Wind instructors will help you become the musician you want to be. Our faculty will introduce you to the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, and incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. You will need an instrument at home to take lessons.

Brass Classes >

Our Brass instructors teach school band, blues, jazz,  pop, classical, and marching styles on Tuba, Trumpet, French Horn, and Trombone. Beginners work on good posture, mouth piece exercises, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Each Brass lesson will challenge you with a new technique or music theory, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song. We employ a variety of music method books based on student needs and preferences, and encourage students to bring smartphones or CDs to their lessons to learn their favorite tunes.

Voice Classes >

If you've always wanted to hone your skills as a rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel or R&B singer, Columbia has the voice teacher for you. Our voice faculty focuses primarily on popular music. Each week, students are led through physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, enunciation and more.

10 Benefits of becoming an academy student:

1. Piano, Guitar, Drums, Bass, and LED Monitors for your favorite mobile device in each room in ONE location!

We are the only school in Southern Maryland that offers these popular instruments: All acoustic Pianos, Electric & Acoustic Guitar, Drum set, Bass, and more in one location. We are also the only school in Southern  Maryland that has installed LED monitors in each teaching room so that you can bring your iPhone, iPad, or any mobile device to give you the BEST music lesson experience in Maryland that no one else can offer.

2. The Best and most qualified teaching faculty in Maryland.

We have 5 music teachers, all with college training or professional performance experience. Our music teachers are dedicated to learning about your personal musical goals and helping you to achieve them. With at least two music teachers for every instrument, we are confident that we have the right teacher to meet your music lesson needs. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and dedicated to teaching you the style of music that you want to learn.

3. The widest range of music lesson times available seven days a week!

We are the only music school in Southern MD that offers music lessons seven days a week from early in the morning to late at night to accommodate your busy schedule.

11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Sundays

4. A proven track record of excellence since 2011.

Visit our testimonial page to see what our students are saying. Every year, aspiring music teachers start their own studio, and a year or two later it’s closed. The Academy has a proven track record of providing quality music, piano, guitar,  bass and drum lessons in the Southern Maryland region year round. We have added new musicians into churches, community groups and performing bands in the area.

5. A comfortable parent's lounge for our clients.‍

Instead of waiting in a music retail store showroom, our clients enjoy a spacious, professional parent's lounge with comfortable chairs, kids toys, Wi-Fi, magazines and bottled water service. Or, if you prefer, you can sit in on their lesson anytime you like.

6. The most technologically advanced and fully stocked music lesson rooms in Maryland!

Our rooms are stocked with everything you need for music lessons, including amps, stereos, full drum kits with pads, keyboards, pianos and more. All you need to bring is your instrument.

Technology is also a big part of lessons at Waldorf Music  Academy and we have installed LED monitors in every classroom at our school. The monitors have cables that can attach to iPods, iPads, or laptops. This allows students to have a modern and engaging lesson using music teaching apps, music software, Skype, and more. Feel free to "Bring Your Own Device" to your lesson in addition to your instrument! No other school in Southern Maryland offers this technology.

One of the things that has really set up apart is our focus on providing lessons that are fresh, new, and engaging. There are so many great teaching apps out there now that we felt we had to update our teaching rooms with LED monitors. By doing so, our students never run the risk of being bored by their lessons. It's a challenge to engage children or adults, but by integrating technology such as teaching apps from the iTunes store, GarageBand, ProTools, you name it, we're providing a cutting edge lesson experience in the DMV.

7. Free music recitals in well known venues.

We are one of the only music schools in the DMV that offers free recitals with professional accompaniment in a first class professional recital hall for student recitals.

Every parent just wants to know how their child is doing and if they are really progressing. The best way for a parent to understand if their investment in lessons is really worth it, is to have their child participate in a recital. We even provide refreshments and guest performances to make it fun!

8. Early morning and lunch time lessons for home schoolers, retirees, college students and working professionals.

Since we are the best school in the DMV, we are able to be a 'full service' music school. This allows us to offer lessons as early as 10 a.m. and we see many students between the hours of 11 a.m.-2 p.m. If you are a home school parent, retiree, college student or working professional who has a flexible schedule, take advantage of our early morning and lunch time lesson spots. Our bass, guitar drum and piano teachers are ready to get started!

9. Picture Day

We are the only music school in Southern Maryland that offers a picture day for their students. Every Spring and Fall we host a free picture day with professional photographer. This is a service that our student's parents love as they all want quality photos of their children (example pictured left). Adults are welcome too! Students can bring their instruments to the photo shoot and wear whatever they like.

10. Month to Month lessons.

The Academy does not require semester minimums for lessons. Every student here is on a month-to-month basis.

If you are ready to start, you have nothing to lose. W e only want students who truly want to be here and we will not commit you to a long term contract.

Meet the Director

My life of music started at the age of 4 playing drums and piano. At the age of 15, I gave my first musical performance, from that stage on I knew my talent had found a home.

My parents started me off taking lessons which guided me into school band. During my high school and college years I performed extensively playing classical, jazz, rock, funk, go-go, gospel, marching band, R&B, and with local rap artists.

My other passion is teaching. Throughout my college years and beyond I served as a percussion instructor and assistant band director at Morgan State University. I retired after 15+  years as a High school administrator in Maryland, DC and Connecticut.
