MEET THE FOUNDER
CHARLES E. STEWART
Charles E Stewart displayed an extraordinary passion and talent for playing drums starting at the age of 4 playing drums and piano. In the 1980’s, Charles was a musical prodigy and true legend in the DMV area as a drummer. He was the drummer everyone wanted!
After graduating high school Charles continued his education at Morgan State University (MSU). His legendary talent playing multiple instruments within the percussion section, allowed him to participate in other MSU bands to include: “Jazz Band”, “Pep Band”, and the “Symphonic Band”. He received his Bachelor’s of Art Degree in Music Performance from Morgan State University in 1998. As a Go-Go virtuoso, Charles captivated audiences with his unparalleled skill and authentic approach to his craft. Known for his versatility, Charles performed extensively playing classical, jazz, rock, funk, Go-Go, gospel, marching band, R&B, and local rap artists. In addition, in 2011, he received his Master’s of Arts degree in Administration and Supervision from University of Phoenix.
Charles’ professional career started in 1998 as a high school teacher of History and English. With a diverse educational background as a teacher and High School Administrator, Charles has contributed his expertise to various schools in Maryland, DC and Connecticut for close to 30 years.
Because of his love as an educator, Charles’ passion for music shifted from live performances to giving back to his community by teaching and mentoring in music. In 2015, Charles started private music lessons at his residence along with traveling to the homes of his students in Charles and Prince George’s counties. In 2020, Charles and his wife opened their first music store, “Waldorf Music Academy”.
Unfortunately, Charles peacefully transitioned on January 3, 2024 at the Hospice of the Chesapeake, Waldorf Maryland from colon cancer. His wife Dr. Marisha Stewart will continue to keep his legacy alive and manage Waldorf Music Academy. WMA’s vision is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where customers of all skill levels and ages can explore, learn, and find the perfect tools for their musical expression.
