Sign up is easy and parent-friendly, with helpful staff to serve you. Because we only offer lessons on a month-to-month basis, there are no large upfront payments, no complicated contracts, no annual material or performance fees, and no semester minimums.

Piano Lessons

What will I learn from piano lessons at WMA?

Whether you want to learn Bach or Alicia Keys, our teachers are dedicated to helping you become the pianist you want to be. They will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, and incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons.

Do I need a piano to learn the instrument?

No, you do not need a piano at home to take lessons. A simple full size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first 6 months.

Drum Lessons

What styles of drumming do you teach?

Our drum instructors teach all styles, from rock and metal to pop, jazz, funk, country, blues and classical.

What will I learn from drum lessons at WMA?

Our instructors challenge our students with wide-ranging technical exercises designed to improve speed and comfort. Drum language can be complex, and theory is encouraged. Students can bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons.

Do I need to purchase a drum kit to learn the drums?

Definitely not. Our professional, soundproof drum lesson rooms in Waldorf are equipped with a Roland drum kit for our students. Just bring your drum sticks and a notebook. Beginning students can practice at home with a drum pad and sticks.

Bass Guitar

Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of bass method books, and encourage students to bring their smartphone or CDs to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.

Do I need to purchase a bass to learn the instrument?

The Academy offers acoustic and electric basses for student lessons (for your convenience, students can use one of ours at their first lesson). But to practice at home, students will need a bass.

What will I learn from Voice lessons at WMA?

Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice.

Brass Lessons

What will I learn from brass instrument lessons at WMA?

Our Brass instructors teach school band, blues, jazz,  pop, classical, and marching styles on Tuba, Trumpet, French Horn, and Trombone.

Beginners work on good posture, mouth piece exercises, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Each Brass lesson will challenge you with a new technique or music theory, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song. We employ a variety of music method books based on student needs and preferences, and encourage students to bring smartphones or CDs to their lessons to learn their favorite tunes.

Do I need to purchase a brass instrument to take lessons?

Violin Lessons

What will I learn from violin lessons at WMA?

Students will learn the different parts of the violin, such as the scroll, tip, end button, and heel. You will also begin playing without the bow. This is called plucking, and it helps beginners learn the different pitches of each string on the bow and how the strings create music. Violin lessons also help with coordination, hand strength, posture, fine motor skills and a host of other skills.

Do I need to purchase a violin to learn the instrument?

WMA offers a violin for a student’s lesson (for your convenience, students can use one of ours at their first lesson). But to practice at home, students will need a violin.
